SF Tough Chex (Chex) is sired by Four Bonnie Bay who was hand selected by Craig Haythorn and has become a cornerstone of the St Clair Performance Horse breeding program. Chex has had multiple full and half siblings featured in the Sandhills Select Quarter Horse Sale held every other year in Ogallala, Nebraska. We purchased Chex in the Sandhills Select Sale as a 3-year-old with 45 rides. He was put to work on the ranch by my wife and has been used extensively for moving cattle, sorting in the alleyway, running the budbox or crowding tub, pasture doctoring, dragging calves, and putting out pairs. His quiet demeanor has also led him to be the chosen mount for youth riding lessons (many of them beginners) and the go to horse for interns on the ranch who have little or no ranch riding experience. Chex has been shown locally as a 4-H project horse the last 3 summers by a young man with very limited riding experience. Chex helped this young man to grow in his horsemanship from an unrated intermediate rider to a level 2 Western and a Level 2 Working Ranch horseman. Chex was shown in showmanship, horsemanship, trail, western riding, reining, ranch horsemanship, individual cow work, ranch sorting, ranch trail, barrels, poles, flags, and keyhole as well as ridden in parades. He has a lot of experience on the cutting flag and will track the Hot Heels well on both ends. Chex has a nice stop, will sidepass, spin, and he takes both leads. He stands tied for hours without fussing and is one of the farriers favorites to trim and shoe. Chex tolerates a sometimes unsteady rider and will forgive mistimed cues and uneven reins. If you're looking for a horse that is an all-around, well-seasoned, family-friendly, asset to your operation, take a long look at SF Tough Chex.
Blemishes: Chex has a minor scar on his left front pastern/heel. He also has a bump on his right front shin that he had when we bought him as a 3 year old. He has a minor scar on his forehead. None of these have ever affected him.
